Ninth special session of the Council of the Republic takes place On 13 February 2008 the ninth special session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the third convocation took place. The senators gave consideration to a number of personnel affairs.  After the establishment of the working bodies of the session — secretariat and counting board — the senators got down to the agenda items. The major ones — agreement on the appointment of Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus and General Prosecutor of the Republic of Belarus by the President of the Republic of Belarus. Aleksandr Popkov, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, took floor on this issue. Natalia Andreichik, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Legislation and State Administration, presented conclusions on Petr Miklashevich and Grigory Vasilevich, candidates who were appointed by the President of the Republic of Belarus to the posts of Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus and General Prosecutor of the Republic of Belarus respectively.  After the discussion in accordance with Paragraph 2 of the first part of Article 98 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus the Council of the Republic agreed that Petr Miklashevich should be appointed Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus and Grigory Vasilevich — General Prosecutor of the Republic of Belarus. While considering these issues Aleksandr Abramovich, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, Boris Khrustalev, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Education, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters, and members of the Council of the Republic Nikolai Domashkevich, Aleksandr Yakobson, Natalia Baranova and Ivan Avin also gave their speeches.  After that the parliamentarians debated the issue “On electing judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus”. Natalia Andreichik, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Legislation and State Administration, noted in her speech that in compliance with the Paragraph 3 of the first part of Article 98 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, with Articles 20 and 21 of the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Judicial System and Status of Judges the Council of the Republic shall elect six judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus. Mrs Andreichik proposed to renominate Tatyana Boyko and Anatoly Tikovenko for the posts of the judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus. Through open vote Tatyana Boyko and Anatoly Tikovenko were elected judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus. Thereupon the work of the ninth special session of the Council of the Republic of the third convocation was over.
