Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On 18 March 2009 Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Anatoly Smirnov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Belarus, on his request. Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, also took part in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting discussed a number of bilateral cooperation issues in political, parliamentary, trade-economic and other spheres. Mr Boris Batura underlined the high level of Belarus and Kazakhstan interstate cooperation and noted that our countries traditionally rendered help to each other in the international arena. In particular Belarus supported Kazakhstan as a candidate for 2010 presidency in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He also underlined the need for a more active bilateral trade development for overcoming negative consequences of the world financial and economic crisis. According to the Chairman of the Council of the Republic contacts in the sphere of small business and developing of regional level cooperation can play the major role here.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan in his turn noted that the Government and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan paid a lot of attention to the measures aimed at economic crisis aftermath minimization and offered to make a wider use of Belarusian-Kazakh regional cooperation potential. Mr Anatoly Smirnov also proposed to consider the possibility of Belarusian participation in major state projects in Kazakhstan.
In the end of the meeting Mr Boris Batura offered to consider the possibility of establishing an inter-parliamentary committee on cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the purpose of intensification of contacts between the legislative bodies of Belarus and Kazakhstan. The Kazakh side positively perceived this offer. The sides agreed on working at the reciprocal parliamentary visits.
