Belarusian and Russian parliamentarians debate important issues of the building of the Union State
May 24 — 26, 2007 Mr. Anatoly Novikov, Chairman Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Education, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters, Deputy Chairman Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Russia-Belarus Union for Social  Policy, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters, opened and conducted the 6th sitting of the standing seminar in Petrozavodsk on the issues relating to the building of the Union State. The topic of the seminar was “Social policy-making of the Union State: conceptual approaches, reality and prospects”. The meeting was convened by the afore-mentioned Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly and was attended by the representatives from the Parliamentary Assembly, members of the Council of Federation, the deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation  and representatives from the Government of the Republic of Korelia, some regions of the Russian Federation, scientific organizations, non-governmental organizations and the mass media.
Mr. Sergey Katanandov, the President of the Republic of Korelia, and Mr. Sergey Strelchenko, Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly, addressed the participants of the seminar with opening speeches.
The issues relating to social security of the population, ensuring equal rights of the citizens, health care, demographic development, culture, tourism and sport were debated during the seminar.
The members of the sitting noted that the economies of Belarus and Russia developing effectively and complementing each other contributed to the creation of necessary conditions for enforcing equal rights, exercising and securing freedoms and legitimate interests of the citizens of the two states within the framework of the common social space. In this respect the key target of the social-economic and foreign policy strategies is to create a socially strong, economically developed and politically stable Union State. |
