On July 24 – 30, 2006, a Republic of Belarus parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mr. Gennady Novitsky was on an official visit to the Republic of India.
In the framework of the visit, the delegation met with the President of the Republic of India Dr. Abdul Kalam, Vice-President of the Republic of India, Speaker of Rajya Sabha of the Indian Parliament Dr. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Speaker of Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament Dr. Somnath Chatterjee. The first joint meeting of the Belarus-India Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups was held in a cordial atmosphere.
Members of the delegation also met with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Karnataka State Dr. Sri Krishna, President of the Legislative Council of the State Dr. S. Khot, as well as representatives of business circles of India who are members of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of India.
