Visit of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus to the Sultanate of Oman On 28 February — 3 March 2010 the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

On 28 February members of the delegation had a meeting with Dr. Yahya Mahfoodh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman. The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of Belarus-Oman inter-parliamentary cooperation and signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman. According to it the Sides shall develop inter-parliamentary co-operation in a way that achieves the exchange of experience and secures the efficiency of the performance of the parliament authorities in the two countries and use parliamentary means to secure and support the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of mutual interest.
| On the same day the delegation had negotiations with Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Esai, Chairman of Majlis A'Shura of the Sultanate of Oman, and Sheikh Salim bin Hilal Al Khalily, Minister of Agriculture of the Sultanate of Oman. The sides discussed the issues of establishing bilateral trade, economic and investment links as well as developing humanitarian and cultural cooperation. Later on the members of the Belarusian delegation visited the Sultan Qaboos University, where they discussed the prospects of extending interacademic cooperation and implementing joint programmes in the Republic of Belarus.

On 1 March meetings with Mr Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, Minister of National Economy — Deputy Chairman of Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council of the Sultanate of Oman, and Mr Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, took place. The issues discussed included the cooperation of the Republic of Belarus and the Sultanate of Oman in trade and economic sphere, implementation of joint investment projects, bilateral interaction in international organizations (in particular the UN and the Non-aligned Movement) as well as intensification of humanitarian links between the two countries.
| Later in the day Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with Mr Sayyid Al Mutassim bin Hamoud Al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat (the capital city of Oman), during which the possibilities of regional cooperation development were discussed. In particular the sides touched upon supplying the Sultanate of Oman with Belarusian construction and medical equipment.

On 2 March the members of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation had meetings with H.E. Prince Sayyid Fahad bin Mahmoud Al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers of the Sultanate of Oman, and Sheikh Saif bin Hamiyar Al Malik Al Shehi, governor of Nizwa Wilayat. The issues discussed included bilateral trade and economic cooperation, implementation of joint investment programmes in the sphere of energetics, industry, agriculture, as well as humanitarian and regional cooperation. On the same day a presentation of investment projects, industrial equipment and machinery, agricultural products of our country was performed for the business circles in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Oman. Mr Boris Batura noted that good relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Sultanate of Oman would facilitate the implementation of mutually rewarding projects in the sphere of energetics, telecommunications, construction, agriculture, high technologies, science, tourism, establishing joint industrial and food producing enterprises, transportation infrastructure, automobile manufacturing and petrochemistry. The head of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation noted that our country was open for dialogue giving significant benefits for investors. After the presentation an Agreement between the Belarusian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Oman on creating Belarus-Oman Business Cooperation Council was signed.

On 3 March 2010 members of the delegation had a meeting with Mr Maqbool bin Ali bin Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Sultanate of Oman, where they discussed the possibilities of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The Belarusian side proposed to open a trade mission in Oman. The participants of the meeting noted the importance of conducting marketing research for promoting Belarusian goods at the markets of Oman and neighbouring states.
Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic, head of the parliamentary delegation, answered the questions of Omani mass media representatives about the results of the visit. |
