Nikolai Cherginets met with the delegation of the Western European Assembly

On March 1, 2005 Chairman of the Council of the Republic Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security Mr. Nikolai Cherginets met with Mr. Jean-Pierre Masseret, Rapporteur of the Assembly of the Western European Union (AWEU) — Inter-Parliamentary Assembly for European Security and Defence, member of the French Senate and leader of the parliamentary delegation of France to AWEU, Mr. Abdulkadir Ates, AWEU co-Rapporteur and Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, and Madame Caballero-Bourdot, Deputy Secretary of the WEU Political Committee.

The distinguished guests were keen on discussing issues of policy coordination between the European Union and Belarus to prepare the Organization’s report on cooperation in the field of security involving EU countries and their closest eastern neighbours.

During the meeting the parties discussed certain aspects of relations established between Belarus and European Union and NATO as well as prospects of policy coordination between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation in economic and defence spheres.

Mr. Nikolai Cherginets told the foreign parliamentarians about the state of relationship between Belarus, Ukaine and Poland and answered their questions.
