The Belarusian parliamentary delegation takes part in the 120th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union On 5 — 7 April 2009 the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by Mr Vladimir Anderychenko, Chairman of the  House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, takes part in the 120th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Addis-Ababa (Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia). Other members of the parliamentary delegation are Ms Alla Naumchik, member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, and Mr Gleb Bedritskiy, Secretary General of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
Within the framework of the Assembly events, on 5 April Ms Alla Naumchik took part in the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians (the participants discussed the impact of climate change and renewable energy sources on gender equality policy, as well as women’s role in maintaining financial stability and their contribution into economic development), and on 6 April — in discussion “Freedom of Expression and the Right to Information” held by the Third Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights.
Mr Gleb Bedritskiy as the Secretary General of the national group of the Republic of Belarus in the IPU and a member of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) took part in the sittings of this structure. The main issues discussed at the sittings were measures to mitigate the impact on environment, maintaining administrative procedure in the parliaments etc.
In addition to that, the members of the Belarusian delegation took part in the general debate on the political, economic and social situation in the world with the overall theme of “Parliaments: Building Peace, Democracy and Development in times of crisis” and had a number of bilateral meetings. |
