  PARTICIPATION IN THE WORK OF INTER-PARLIAMENTARY AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, WORKING CONTACTS

Participation of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus in inter-parliamentary events in St. Petersburg

      On 14 May 2009 the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, took part in the events of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of the Independent States.

      The main topic of the IPA CIS Plenary sitting was youth policy in the CIS member states. During the discussion of this topic Mr Boris Batura made a speech informing the parliamentarians about the main trends of modern youth policy legal framework in the Republic of Belarus. The IPA CIS Declaration on Formation of Modern Youth Policy in the CIS member states was approved in view of the results of the discussion. The declaration noted the need to conduct a coordinated and effective youth policy, supported the idea to create a consolidated International Youth Cooperation Strategy in the CIS and underlined the importance of youth state support in employment and education in the context of the world economic crisis. In addition to that the participants discussed the preparation to the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and considered the model Laws “On children and youth upbringing”, “On counteracting extremism” and others, as well as the recommendations on cooperation of the CIS member states for bringing medical education in compliance with the UNESCO Bioethics Education Programme.

      Sittings of the IPA CIS Permanent Commissions also took place. Ms Antonina Morova, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Education, Science, Culture and Social Development, was among the participants of the sitting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights. They considered the issues related to child’s rights guarantees, combating illegal migration et al.

      On 15 May Ms Morova will take part in the Second Nevsky International Ecological Congress. The topic of the congress will be energy and ecological habitat safety in the context of the global economic crisis.
