DELEGATIONS TO INTER-PARLIAMENTARY ORGANIZATIONS   PARTICIPATION IN THE WORK OF INTER-PARLIAMENTARY AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, WORKING CONTACTS

Mr Gennady Novitsky had a meeting with Mr Childeric Schaapveld, Director of the Council of Europe’s Directorate of Democratic Institutions

      On 4 February 2010 Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, had a meeting with Mr Childeric Schaapveld, Director of the Council of Europe’s Directorate of Democratic Institutions, in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on his request.

      During the meeting Mr Novitsky welcomed enhanced contacts between the Republic of Belarus and European structures on different levels and noted that our country is always ready to develop a civilized dialogue with Europe.

      Mr Schaapveld in his turn ascertained the extension of contacts between Belarus and representatives of European structures. He briefly informed Mr Novitsky about the activities of the Directorate, which are especially focused on improvement of efficiency and capacity of government, including in the sphere of local self-government.

      During the meeting special attention was paid to the situation of self-government in the Republic of Belarus and the prospects of interaction with the relevant organizations of the Council of Europe.
