  PARTICIPATION IN THE WORK OF INTER-PARLIAMENTARY AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, WORKING CONTACTS

Ms Nina Mazay took part in the 19th Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

      On 7 — 10 July 2010 the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus consisting of Mr Viktor Guminsky, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus (head of the delegation), and Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, took part in the 19th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA).

      The session in Oslo (the Kingdom of Norway) focused on the general theme of “Rule of Law: Combating Transnational Crime and Corruption”. 250 parliamentarians from 50 OSCE member states participated in the Assembly.

      During the Assembly’s plenary sitting and the sittings of the three general committees the Belarusian parliamentarians took part in the discussion of the questions related to global energy security, climate change, improving the climate of confidence within the OSCE PA, strengthening the fight on terrorism, production and turnover of drugs, extending the participation of the OSCE PA in the Corfu Process on maintaining security in Europe etc.

      Ms Nina Mazay made speeches during the sittings of the General Committees on Political Affairs and Security and on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, as well as during the Corfu Process resolution debate. She noted the importance of rapid adoption of the OSCE founding document as well as the need for interaction between the parliamentary structures and international organizations aimed at the renewal of the European security architecture.

      The members of the Belarusian delegation had meetings with the parliamentarians from Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and other countries.

      Petros Efthymiou (Greece) was elected the Assembly’s new President.
