JOINT COMMUNIQUEissued as a result of the working visit to the Republic of Belarus by Mr. Fiorello Provera, Chairman of the Standing Committee for International Affairs and Migration of the Senate of the Republic of Italy
In the framework of the working visit Mr. Fiorello Provera, Chairman of the Standing Committee for International Affairs and Migration of the Senate of the Republic of Italy had meetings with leaders of the Standing Committees of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Council of the Republic and House of Representatives which deal with international and inter-parliamentary relations issues. He also met with the members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Working Group on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Italy. Mr. F.Provera was received by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Council of the Republic Mr. Gennady Novitsky, the State Secretary of the Republic of Belarus Security Council Mr. Gennady Nevyglas, the Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Oleg Proleskovsky and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Aleksandr Mikhnevich.
The parties noted the positive dynamics of the development of commercial and economic relations between the two states and expressed interest in furthering cooperation in the field of sport, tourism, culture and education. In this context, the parties looked forward to the enhancement of brotherhood relations between regions and cities of Italy and Belarus.
The parties stressed the importance of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation as a decisive tool to promote strengthening of friendly relations between the two nations.
The parties exchanged opinions and presented their stands on issues of the UN Security Council reform.
The parties stated that humanitarian cooperation between Belarus and Italy is one of the key elements in the bilateral relations. The Belarusian side expressed its gratitude to the Italian people, the country’s charitable associations, Government and Parliament for the selfless assistance in the rehabilitation of Belarusian children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident and implementation of a number of large-scale humanitarian projects on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
The parties pledged to seek yet closer cooperation in issues of international adoption of children with a view to raising their welfare and meeting their interests.
The Italian side appreciated the readiness expressed by the President of the Republic of Belarus to pay special heed to cooperation with Italy in adoption issues.
The parties stated the need for the international community to further cooperation in fighting international terrorism, trade in humans, illegal drug and weapons trafficking, as well as illicit migration.
