WORKING GROUPS TO MAINTAIN CONTACTS WITH PARLIAMENTS OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES   OFFICIAL VISITS AND WORKING CONTACTS

The Chairman of the Council of the Republic met with the Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan

On May 25, 2006 Mr. Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the National Assembly Council of the Republic, met with Mr. Ilgizar Sabirov, Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Present at the meeting also was Mr. Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security.

Mr. Gennady Novitsky expressed confidence that Uzbekistan would occupy its worthy place in the European-Asian Economic Community and that the 7th session of the Community would be constructive and fruitful. The European-Asian Economic Community has been recognized as an influential international organization, which enables its members to feel secure in the modern word, stressed Mr. Novitsky.
        Mr. Ilgizar Sabirov deemed it important that Uzbekistan participates in the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the European-Asian Economic Community, as it would be required to ratify several documents signed in the framework of the Community. The Uzbek Speaker also stressed that the member-parliaments face a number of common challenges associated with prevention of international terrorism, drug trafficking as well as organized crime and very much still has to be done along this line.
