A delegation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on a visit to BelarusOn June 26 – 30, 2006 an interdepartmental delegation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela composed of Mr. Adan Chavez Frias, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Venezuela in Cuba, and a member of the Venezuelan National Assembly Mr. Francisco Ameliach paid a working visit to the Republic of Belarus.
In the course of the visit the Venezuelan guests had meetings with representatives of the Republic of Belarus National Assembly, the country’s Central Election Committee, Security Council, Council of Ministers and the Chief Ideological Department of the Office of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
On June 27, the Venezuelan delegation met with Mr. Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the National Assembly Council of the Republic Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security. Present at the meeting also was Mr. Aleksandr Zimovsky, member of the Council of the Republic Standing Committee for Economy, Budget and Finances, leader of the Republic of Belarus National Assembly Working group on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Mr. Cherginets informed the guests of the structure and mandate of the Council of the Republic, social and economic policy of the country, its domestic and foreign priorities. He also said that Belarus is open for a free dialogue and cooperation with Venezuela.
In his turn, Mr. Frias told the Belarusian MPs that Venezuela is interested in developing both trade and political relations with Belarus, the main cooperation spheres being agriculture, power engineering and science. Venezuela is also keen on launching joint ventures with the participation of Belarusian capital and know-how, said Mr. Frias.
Mr. Cherginets stressed that with regard to international politics the positions of the two countries appear to be very much alike and that bilateral parliamentary contacts need to be intensified. To this end, a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Venezuela led by Mr. Aleksandr Zimovsky had been established in the Belarus National Assembly, added Mr. Cherginets.
Mr. Francisco Ameliach said he favoured the idea of establishing a similar group on cooperation with the Parliament of Belarus in the Venezuelan Parliament and suggested an exchange of parliamentary delegations.
At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to sign a framework parliamentary agreement, which would determine the legal basis for developing bilateral inter-parliamentary relations. |
