The official visit of the Republic of Belarus parliamentary delegation to the Republic of IndiaOn July 25, 2006, in the framework of the official visit to the Republic of India, the Republic of Belarus parliamentary delegation headed by Mr. Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the National Assembly Council of the Republic, met in Delhi with the President of the Republic of India Dr. Abdul Kalam. During the meeting Mr. Novitsky renewed to the Indian President an invitation by President of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Aleksandr Lukashenko to visit Belarus. Dr. Kalam accepted the invitation and the dates of the visit are to be specified by diplomatic channels. In addition, the parties discussed key issues of bilateral inter-parliamentary, trade and economic, scientific and technological cooperation as well as a wide range of international and regional problems including prevention of terrorism and situation in South Asia.
The same day, during the first joint meeting of Belarus-India Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups, the Belarusian and Indian legislators considered the state and prospects of bilateral relations and expressed readiness to further develop them.
Members of the Belarusian delegation also met with representatives of the business circles of India who are members of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of India. Taking the floor at the meeting, Mr. Gennady Novitsky outlined the prospects of developing Belarus-India trade and economic relations and spoke of the need for better cooperation in the field of investments. During the meeting the parties agreed on measures to encourage bilateral relations by implementing mutually beneficial projects and launching joint ventures in the field of food processing, production of medicines, software, large-size tires and machine-building goods as well as in other production areas. |
