Cooperation issues under consideration Mr. Vladimir Savchenko, member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Council of the Republic for Foreign  Affairs and National Security, Chairman Grodno Region Executive Committee met the heads of EU diplomatic missions accredited in Minsk during their one day visit to Grodno on October 19, 2006.
Mr. Savchenko told the diplomats that the trade turnover of Grodno Region with EU member states accounted for 400 mln. US  dollars for a period of January — August of the current year. Trade and economic relations with Poland, Germany and Lithuania are on the rise. Mr. Savchenko believes that the trade turnover with these countries may well be doubled in the nearest future and in order to cultivate the mutually-beneficial relations it is indispensable to arrange more meetings with businessmen and to organize common trade fairs.
Regarding the socio-political situation in the Neman river region Mr. Savchenko also remarked: «Representatives of 87 nationalities and 17 confessions live in peace and harmony, numerous ethnic groups created 21 national communities. There are 10 political parties and 122 public associations».
