Belarusian – Sudanese relations under consideration On 19 February, 2007 Mr. Novitsky, Chairman Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus met with Ahmud Ibrahim El Tahir,   Chairman National Assembly of the Republic of Sudan. Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, and Anatoly Novikov, Chairman Standing Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters, also took part in the meeting.
Gennady Novitsky said that Belarus is ready for the effective cooperation with the Republic of Sudan and also gave assurance that the visit of the Sudanese delegation will create essential prerequisites for the development of bilateral relations both politically and economically.
In particular, the parties agreed upon setting up a joint committee on interparliamentary cooperation and putting on combined efforts within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Interparliamentary Union. The participants  of the meeting agreed that parliaments should play an active role in the strengthening of the Non-Aligned Movement, in this connection Belarusian parliamentarians voiced their initiative on creating interparliamentary assembly within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement which was welcomed by their Sudanese counterparts.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the issues concerning collaboration in the agricultural sphere and in the development of oil fields in Sudan.
