A topic of Belarus-South Africa inter-parliamentary cooperation is discussed June 18, 2007 Mr Gennady V.Novitsky, Chairman Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus met with Mr Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. The meeting took place within the official visit (June 17 — 22, 2007) of the delegation of the National Council of Provinces to the Republic of Belarus. Members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic N.I.Cherginets, N.I.Andreichik, A.N.Novikov, S.K.Pisarevich as well as the Council of the Republic member I.I.Avin participated in it.
Leaders of the upper houses of the parliaments noted that the inter-parliamentary co-operation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of South Africa had been making good headway. The tendency for coincidence of views on international agenda issues concerning equitable peace based on multipolar development and universally recognized principles of international law has been traced. The parties agreed that the strength of Belarus-South Africa mutually beneficial trade and economic relations enabled to anticipate the trade indicators rise. Interaction in the sphere of education is also very promising.
The participants of the dialogue gave special priority to the issue of creating a parliamentary dimension within the Non-Alignment Movement. They also stated that an active work in this direction would be continued by both parliaments.
The Arrangement on Co-operation between the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the National Council of Provinces of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa was signed at the meeting in the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The foundation for bilateral and multilateral inter-parliamentary partnership laid down in the Arrangement will contribute both to inter-parliamentary ties strengthening and bilateral relations development. Therefore, the Belarusian and South African parliamentarians showed mutual striving for giving an impulse to inter-parliamentary interaction in the fields of mutual interest. |
