Gennady Novitsky meets with Minister of State Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman July 20, 2007 Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, met with Mr Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister of State Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. Mr Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, also took part in the meeting.
During the talks the partiers discussed the state and prospects of the Belarus-Oman cooperation on the international arena and bilateral cooperation in the sphere of politics, economy, investments, science and education. Mr Novitsky pointed out that a strong impulse toward the development of the Belarus-Oman cooperation had been given by the visit of President Alexander Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus to that country in April of 2007. The parties accentuated the closeness of the stances on major issues of the international agenda, which contributes to the convergence and mutual support of the two countries within the activities of the UN and other organisations.
Special emphasis was laid on the bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and its importance in the peacekeeping process and the maintenance of international stability. The parties also addressed the matters concerning the parliamentary dimension of the named organisation.
The Chairman of the Council of the Republic noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation of Belarus and Oman was an important element of the interstate partnership and confirmed the previously sent invitation for Mr Yahya Bin Mahfoud Al-Manthery, President of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, to visit the Republic of Belarus.
 The Minister of State Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman spoke highly of the economic development of the Republic of Belarus and talked about the interests of the Omani party in the promotion of cooperation in the fields of education, especially in training engineers in Belarusian higher education establishments.
The parties noted a considerable potential for bilateral cooperation in trade-economic sphere and implementation of mutually beneficial investment projects. In particular, Mr Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah emphasized that Belarus could meet the demands of Oman as far as machinery and industrial products are concerned. He suggested considering the creation of assembly plants of Belarusian enterprises on the territory of his country. |
