Members of the Council of the Republic meet with a parliamentary-governmental delegation of the Italian RepublicOn October 25, 2005 the Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security Mr. Nikolai Cherginets met with a parliamentary-governmental delegation of the Italian Republic headed by the Chair of the Committee on the Issues of Childhood Mrs. Maria Burani Procaccini. Present at the meeting also were Mrs. Natalya Andreychik, Chair of the Council of the Republic Standing Committee for Legislation and State Administration, and Mr. Anatoly Novikov, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Social Matters. Opening the meeting Mr. N.Cherginets said that the Republic of Belarus is highly appreciative of the assistance that Italy has been rendering Belarus in rehabilitating the country’s children. Italy ranks number 1 among countries that offer their care to the Belarusian children suffering from the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident.
Nikolai Cherginets expressed confidence that it would not take long for the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and its Italian counterpart agency to sign a cooperation protocol which would deal with all controversial issues concerning adoption of Belarusian children by Italian families.
As stated by the leader of the Italian delegation, the Parliament of Belarus should begin to contribute to finding a good solution to a long outstanding problem of the adoption of Belarusian children. She said that the Italians, in their turn, are ready to respect the Belarusian language and the country’s national traditions. Moreover, the Italian MP emphasized her country’s intention to see to it that while in Italy, the Belarusian children have better opportunities for studying and receiving initials of vocational training which would help them find their place in the society back home.
Nikolai Cherginets also proposed that the Parliaments of Italy and Belarus sign a joint agreement on cooperation in all spheres, including those that require mutual understanding and clarity. |
