Belarusian senators meet with a parliamentary delegation of Finland

On April 26, 2006 the Chairman of the National Assembly Council of the Republic Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security Mr. Nikolai Cherginets met with a parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Finland headed by Mrs. Liisa Jaakonsaari, Chairperson of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Eduskunta – Riksdagen of Finland. Present at the meeting also was Mr. Timo Lahelma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland in the Republic of Lithuania and Republic of Belarus (concurrently) and Senator Vladimir Drazhin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Lithuania and Republic of Finland (concurrently).
        During the meeting the parties discussed issues pertaining to bilateral inter-parliamentary contacts and trade and economic relations between Belarus and Finland. Senator Nikolai Cherginets told the guests that the Republic of Belarus is open for a free dialogue and cooperation and is prepared to consider any constructive initiatives.
        Speaking of the purpose of her visit to Belarus Mrs. Liisa Jaakonsaari informed the Belarusian side that in the second half of 2006 Finland would assume chairmanship in the European Union and that her parliamentary delegation would like to form an opinion of the Belarusian Republic and identify priorities of cooperation, including in the economic field.
