Nikolai Cherginets speaks of high level of Belarus-Iran relations August 5, 2007 Mr Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, met with Mr Seyed Mohammad Mehdi Shahrokhi, Head of the Working Group of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
During the talks the parties noted a high level of Belarus-Iran inter-parliamentary and trade-economic cooperation. However, according to Mr Nikolai Cherginets, the trade turnover between the two states has not attained the level of the reached intergovernmental agreements for the time being.
Special emphasis was laid on the bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and its role in keeping the peace and ensuring international stability. The parties also touched upon the issue of establishing a parliamentary dimension of this organisation. In Mr Shahrokhi’s opinion, Belarus’ and Iran’s views on fair world order based on building up multipolarity and observing generally acknowledged norms of the international law tend to coincide.
At the end of the meeting the head of the Iranian delegation invited members of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Cooperation with the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pay a visit to Iran.
