Meeting with the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China On 21 November 2007 Natalia Andreichik, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Legislation and State Administration, Deputy Chairperson of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Cooperation with the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China (NPC), met with a NPC delegation headed by Li Chongan, member of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Deputy Chairperson of the NPC Committee for Legislation. Valentina Mironova, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Legislation and State Administration, and Viktor Isachkin, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives for Legislation and Legal and Judicial Issues, also took part in the meeting. The participants of the meeting looked at the prospects of Belarus-China inter-parliamentary interaction and the issues relating to cooperation within international organizations and strengthening of bilateral trade, economic and humanitarian ties. The parties also noted a high level of the relationship between Belarusian and Chinese parliamentarians, which is not least because of the work of parliamentary friendship groups in legislative bodies of the both states. The Chinese guest expressed interest into the Belarusian experience of developing legislation in environmental and judicial matters, and also into the area of implementation of the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus in regulatory legal acts. The parties accentuated the active cooperation within the framework of the UN and in particular the conformity of approaches of the two countries to the major topics of the international agenda. The Chinese delegation also supported the position on the essentiality to recognize the variety of development ways for big and small states and to ensure respect of their choice from the world superpowers. As far as bilateral cooperation is concerned Ms Andreichik emphasized the complementarity of the economies of Belarus and China which constitutes a part of the strategic partnership of our countries. She also noted a considerable potential for the development of Belarus-China humanitarian contacts, including the area of education.
