Parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus visits the Republic of Turkey On 20 — 23 November 2007 on invitation of Murat Mercan, Chairman of the Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey for Foreign Affairs, a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus headed by Anatoly Malofeev, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the  Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, Head of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Cooperation with the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, visited Turkey. The delegation also included Roman Vnuchko, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Money and Credit Policy and Banking.
During the visit, the Belarusian delegation met with Meral Aksener, Deputy Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Reha Camuroglu, Chairman of the group on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus at the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Murat Mercan, Chairman of the Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey for International Affairs, and Alaatin Buyukkaya, Head of the Turkish delegation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The parties looked at the prospects of Belarus-Turkey inter-parliamentary interaction and the issues relating to cooperation within international parliamentary organizations. Trade, economic and investment contacts were in the centre of attention during the meeting with Mehmet Damar, Chairman of the Supreme Financial Council of Turkey, and Sinan Aygun, Chairman of Ankara Camber of Commerce. The Belarusian parliamentarians expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of the trade ties and noted a considerable potential for investment cooperation. At the meeting with Unal Cevikoz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, the Belarusian parliamentarians thanked the Turkish party for the support provided on the international arena and stressed the importance of joint initiatives within the framework of international fora.
In the course of the visit, the delegation of the Republic of Belarus paid the tribute to the memory of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, by laying a wreath by his mausoleum. |
