Nikolai Cherginets meets with members of the Council of Federation Committee on Defense and Security (Russian Federation)

       On 8 April, 2008 Mr Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, met with the delegation of the Committee of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Defense and Security, headed by Mr Valery Trushnikov. The meeting occurred within the framework of the working visit of the delegation to the Republic of Belarus.

       During the talks the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation in political and military spheres. Special attention was directed to the analysis of the international situation in the European region with due account for the results of NATO summit in Bucharest and the plans to deploy the elements of the anti-ballistic missile defense system in Czech Republic and Poland. The issues relating to the cooperation within the framework of international and inter-parliamentary organizations as well as the terms and peculiarities of the stay of the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Republic of Belarus received consideration.
