Visit of delegation of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russian Federation On 21 April, 2008 Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic  of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, met with the delegation of the Legislative Assembly  of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast headed by the Chairman of the Assembly, Mr Viktor Lunin. Mr Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, Mr Anatoly Malofeev, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, and Mr Stepan Pisarevich, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Economy, Budget and Finances, also took part in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting considered the prospects of the inter-parliamentary cooperation and the promotion of the inter-regional cooperation between the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation. Gennady Novitsky noted that the cooperation of this kind would contribute to the development of  relations in the areas of economy, politics and culture.
In his part, Viktor Lunin emphasized that the objective of the visit of the Russian delegation to the Republic of Belarus was the furtherance of bilateral cooperation in various fields. During the talks the guests learnt about the practice of the legislative activity and the  system of local self-government of the Republic of Belarus.
At the end of the meeting the parties took part in the ceremony of signing the Protocol of Intent between the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation and the Agreement on Cooperation between the Council for cooperation of local self-government bodies at the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Association of chairpersons of representative bodies of local self-government of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation. The parties, in particular, expressed their intention to swap experience in the sphere of organization and development of law-making activity, to strengthen bilateral inter-parliamentary relations as well as to enhance cooperation between municipal bodies of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation and administrative units of the Republic of Belarus.
