Mr Gennady Novitsky met the delegation of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China On May 27, 2008 a meeting between Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and the delegation of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China headed by Mr Han Qide, Vice-Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, took place. Other participants of the meeting were: Mrs Natalia Andreychik, Chairperson of the Standing Committee for Legislation and State Administration of the Council of the Republic, Deputy Chairperson of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Cooperation with the NPC; Mr Boris Khrustalev, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Education, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters; Mr. Ivan Avin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for International Affairs and National Security; Mrs Tatyana Kravchenko, member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Demographic Security and Social Development; Mr Valentin Simirskiy, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives for International Affairs and Links with the CIS.
Chairman of the Council of the Republic pointed out the high level of interaction in all fields between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China. He acknowledged the support at the international arena that is given to the Republic of Belarus by the Chinese side and highly appraised the progress of the People's Republic of China in reforming the economy and social infrastructure.
Mr Han Qide noted in his turn that the PRC supported the efforts of our country to protect independence and maintain sustainable economic development. He informed the participants of the meeting that the PRC leadership had passed a manifest of disapproval regarding the extension of the American sanctions against Belarus.
Vice-chairman of the NPC underlined the interest of the People's Republic of China in further strengthening of cooperation, in particular in the field of scientific-technical and economic interaction. He qualified the development of Chinese-Belarusian contacts at the regional level with active participation of legislative bodies of both states in this process as a perspective direction. Mr Han Qide brought out an opinion that the development of humanitarian links and implementation of common projects in the field of culture, education, tourism and sport would contribute to the convergence of the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China. He also pointed out the importance of building the Union State, which would be of a great significance not only to the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, but to the whole CIS region.
