Mr Gennady Novitsky on a working visit to Germany On May 29 — June 1, 2008 Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus visited the  Federative Republic of Germany and participated in the 13th International Berlin Gathering. About 300 representatives of legislative and executive government bodies, business, public and religious organisations from more than 30 countries took part in the forum this year.
Opening of the 13th International Berlin Gathering took place in the convention hall of the Social Democratic Party of Germany in Bundestag. Mr Gennady Novitsky was given the floor during the plenary sitting. He presented a report where he underlined the importance of developing mutual understanding between peoples on the basis of Christian and universal values, stated the view of the Republic of Belarus on the globalisation and turned the participants’ attention to the thesis of diversity of progressive development ways, propagated by the Republic of Belarus. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic also noted the achievements of our state in social and economic development and in raising the standards of living for Belarusian citizens.
Several events that were aimed at intensifying trade, economic and investment cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and Germany were included in the program of the visit. Thus, in particular, on May 30 the delegation participated in the economic forum “Day of Belarusian Economy” in Hamburg. This event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Germany in consort with Minsk Department of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, German Association on Cooperation with the Countries of Central and Western Europe and the Chamber of Commerce of Hamburg. More than 30 representatives of the German business community and managers of a number of Belarusian industrial enterprises and haulage companies, free economic zone “GrodnoInvest”, investment and juristical agencies were present.
In his address to the participants of the forum titled “New chances and prospects of investment cooperation between Belarus and Germany” Mr Gennady Novitsky outlined the top directions of the Belarusian economy development. He also noted our country’s desire to develop mutually rewarding cooperation with German partners within the framework of certain investment projects accomplishment. The listeners were informed about the recent measures for improving the investment climate and payment discipline taken in the Republic of Belarus.
