Svetlana Okruzhnaya takes part in the 15th annual General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) On June 25 — 29, 2008 a parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by Ms Svetlana Okruzhnaya, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing 
Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Education, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Matters partook in the 15th annual General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (island of Rhodes, the Hellenic Republic). Members of national parliaments, public figures, scientists and journalists nearly from 20 countries of the world also took part in the event.
At the forum under the main subject “Challenges stemming from the global value system crisis. Christian Orthodox approach” the participants analyzed the causes of the value system crisis in the I.A.O. member states and the role of Orthodoxy in easing the social inequality and prevention of conflicts in the society.
The Assembly resulted in the adoption of the Resolution and relevant recommendations, which contain, particularly, an appeal to develop co-operation between the orthodox parliamentarians from different countries of the world with a view to propagate the Orthodoxy principles as basic elements of mutual understanding, peaceful co-existence and prosperity of nations. In addition the participants of the assembly elected the I.A.O. Secretary General, adopted the budget and discussed the main trends of the I.A.O. activity for 2008 — 2009.
Ms Svetlana Okruzhnaya spoke at the plenary sitting and met with the President of the I.A.O. General Assembly Mr Sergei Popov, I.A.O. Secretary General Aristotelis A.Pavlidis, members of the I.A.O. International Secretariat Mr Konstantin Zatulin and Mr Viktor Semenov and other participants of the event. |
