Mr Arkady Kobrusev visited Latvia On 29 June — 2 July 2008 Mr A. Kobrusev, member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, member of the Working Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Cooperation with the Saeima of the  Republic of Latvia visited the Republic of Latvia as a member of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus. The visit was organized upon the invitation of the Parliamentary Group of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Belarus for the purpose of strengthening and developing of interparliamentary relations between Belarus and Latvia.
Belarusian parliamentarians met Ms Karina Petersone, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, Mr Andris Berzins, Chairman of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr Edgars Skuja, Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, as well as with representatives of the parliamentarian group of the Saeima for cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Belarus. In addition to that, several “round table” sittings with the participation of the chiefs and members of Saeima committees on education, science and culture and on social matters were held. During the abovementioned events the participants discussed the conditions and possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of politics, economy, culture and sport, considered the issues of revitalization of interregional and cross-borders links, contacts between twinned cities. The meetings in the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia resulted in signing an agreement on cooperation between the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the parliamentary group of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia.
In accordance with the program of the visit the members of the delegation visited the automobile assembly of the “MAZ” factory and the showroom of the Belarus-Latvian joint venture “MTZ-Service”. To cover the visit in the Latvian mass media the representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus met with the press and gave a number of interviews about the development of the relations between Belarus and Latvia. |
