Gennady Novitsky had a Meeting with the Ambassador Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran

       On 20 August 2008 Mr G. Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Abdolhamid Fekri, Ambassador Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus, in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The meeting took place on the occasion of the completion of the Ambassador’s mission in Minsk.

       The parties discussed the development of cooperation between Belarus and Iran in political, trade, economic and other spheres. Mr Novitsky noted the significant intensification of bilateral political dialogue as well. In particular two visits on a higher level took place, legal and contractual framework was improved and the goods turnover volume almost doubled during past three years. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic underlined the commonness of the positions of the two countries regarding international issues and constructive cooperation within the United Nations Organisation and the Non-Aligned Movement. He also expressed his appreciation to the Iranian side for their support during the elections to the ECOSOC.

       The Ambassador in his turn noted the intensification of interparliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Iran, and added that the visit of parliamentary delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by the Hon Golam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, was a significant impetus to this cooperation. The Ambassador also said that the countries have good prospects of trade and economic partnership. Common projects of the two countries are rated today at $1.5 billion. Mr Fekri expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Council of the Republic for his support during the Ambassador’s mission in the Republic of Belarus.

       A briefing took place after the meeting. The Ambassador anwered the questions of the representatives of Belarusian electronic and print mass media.
