Gennady Novitsky had a Meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China On 1 September 2008 Mr Gennady Novitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Wu Hongbin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus. The meeting took place in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on the occasion of completion of the Ambassador’s mission in Minsk. Mr Nikolay Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, also took part in the meeting.
In the beginning of the meeting Chairman of the Council of the Republic expressed condolences to the people of China upon the earthquake in Sichuan province that happened on 30 August 2008. Further he pointed out the high level of interaction between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China in all fields and the intensive work of the Embassy of the PRC in the Republic of Belarus aimed at developing the bilateral relations. In particular two visits of Mr Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, to Beijing and a visit of Mr Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the PRC, to Minsk took place during past three years. Goods turnover volume almost doubled and the volume of investments to the Belarusian economy is constantly increasing. Mr Novitsky also noted the significant intensification of interparliamentary cooperation. For example a visit of the delegation of the National People’s Congress of China headed by Mr Han Qide to Minsk took place in May 2008.
Mr Wu Hongbin highly appraised the pace of social and economic development of our country. He underlined the rapidity of the development of bilateral political, economic and interparliamentary relations and expressed gratitude to the Belarusian side for supporting China in the international arena. The Ambassador also noted that equality and mutual understanding are the basis of the relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China and described these relations as strategic partnership. |
