Nikolai Cherginets had a Meeting with the Parliamentary Delegation of the Republic of Italy On 27 September 2008 Mr Nikolai Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee   of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, had a meeting with the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Italy headed by Mr Riccardo Migliori, deputy of the Italian Parliament, in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The representatives of the Italian parliament take part in the OSCE observers mission during the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
The sides held a detailed discussion of the election process in the Republic of Belarus. Mr Cherginets pointed out that all measures were assumed in our country in order to make sure that the elections are open and transparent. In addition to that the possibilities for observers’ work were extended. The head of the Italian parliamentary delegation assured the Belarusian side that the intention of observers was to be objective in relation to the parliamentary elections.
The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the prospects of the  development of Belarusian-Italian interparliamentary relations. Mr Cherginets expressed his gratitude to the Italian colleagues for their balanced attitude towards our country and underlined the constructive character of the interaction between the parliaments of Belarus and Italy. He also informed the guests about the progress in social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus, noted the big potential of the Belarusian market for Italian investors and possibilities for cooperation in the sphere of economy. Mr Migliori qualified this visit as a most important act of parliamentary diplomacy, which was to give the two countries the possibility to establish closer links. He expressed his gratitude to the Belarusian parliamentarians for active cooperation and noted that “there is a bridge of solidarity between the parliaments of the two countries”. In addition to that the participants of the meeting discussed the advantages of bicameral structure of parliament. |
