Nikolai Cherginets Had a Meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam On 28 October 2008 Mr Nikolay Cherginets, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, had a meeting with Mr Vu Xuan Ninh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam. The meeting took place in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on the occasion of completion of the Ambassador’s mission in Minsk.
During the meeting Mr Cherginets noted that the cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam had been developing in a very dynamic manner. For example the volume of goods turnover between the two countries had more than doubled during previous four years. The visit of Mr Aleksander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, to Vietnam in April 2008 gave a significant impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation. A special attention was given to active contacts within the Interparliamentary Union and contiguity of positions of our countries in regard to the international agenda issues. In the end of the meeting Mr Cherginets proposed to consider the possibility of revitalizing bilateral links in the sphere of culture (in particular between the Belarusian and Vietnamese Writers Unions).
In his turn Mr Ninh noted that Vietnam was interested in further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He also dwelt upon the prospects of interaction between Belarus and Vietnam in the sphere of culture and education.
