A meeting with the parliamentary delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place On 8 December 2008 during the Minsk visit of the parliamentary delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina headed by Mr Niko Lozančić, President of the House of Representatives of the Skupština of this country, Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with the members of the delegation in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. Other participants of the meeting were Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security, and Mr Sergey Semashko, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport, Communication and Businesses.
The participants of the meeting discussed the questions of bilateral interparliamentary cooperation and partnership in political, trade-economic and other spheres. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic underlined that the visit — the first one in the history of interparliamentary relations — would give and impetus to the development of bilateral interaction in all fields. The National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus is planning to organize a working group on cooperation with the Skupština of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the purpose of intensification of interparliamentary contacts. Mr Batura draw the guests’ attention to the importance of improving the legal-contractual basis of bilateral relations, first of all in the sphere of economy, for the purpose of intensification of bilateral trade-economic links.
The parliamentarians of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated in return that their country was interested in developing mutually rewarding contacts with the Republic of Belarus and expressed their confidence in that the visit would be beneficial to the consolidation of bilateral political and trade-economic links. They agreed that it was necessary to intensify the interparliamentary contacts and fill the relations between the two countries with concrete content. The President of the of the House of Representatives of the Skupština of Bosnia and Herzegovina invited the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina as the head of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus.
The sides acknowledged it expedient to introduce a visa-free travel regime for the citizens of both countries holding diplomatic and service passports for the purpose of intensification of bilateral contacts.
The visit of the parliamentary delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will last until 10 December. Its programme includes meetings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minsk City Executive Committee, Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visits to a number of Belarusian enterprises.
