Mr Ivan Kiyevets took part in the sitting of the Interparliamentary Committee on Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

      On 25 — 26 March 2009 Mr Ivan Kiyevets, member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, participated in the second sitting of the Interparliamentary committee on cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in Kyiv within the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus. In his speech on “Belarusian-Ukrainian cooperation in the sphere of economy” he underlined the high level of mutually beneficial trade-economic cooperation between the two countries and noted the importance of developing Belarusian-Ukrainian cross-border and interregional contacts in various fields.

      Following the results of the sitting the sides signed a protocol, which stated the promotion of Belarus-Ukraine cross-border and interregional cooperation legal framework improvement as one of the primary directions of the Interparliamentary Committee activities.

      Members of the delegation had meetings with Mr Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Vice-Chairman Mr Mykola Tomenko within the framework of the sitting.

      A decision was taken to hold the regular sitting of the Interparliamentary Committee on Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus in the latter half of the 2009.
