Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus On 20 May 2009 Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Ramesh Chander, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus, on his request. Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, and Mr Anatoly Novikov, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Education, Science, Culture and Social Development, Head of the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of India, also took part in the meeting.
The sides discussed the issues related to the development of Belarus-India political contacts and bilateral inter-parliamentary interaction, as well as cooperation in economic and humanitarian spheres. Mr Boris Batura underlined the high level of interstate cooperation of Belarus and India and noted that our countries traditionally supported each other in the international arena. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic also said that India and Belarus had created all prerequisites for effective bilateral trade and economic cooperation. In this connection it is planned to bring the goods turnover volume up to $ 500 million by 2010. Mr Boris Batura expressed hope that the results of the parliamentary elections in India and the newly formed Government and Parliament would facilitate further development of India and ensure the prosperity of its people.
The Ambassador of India stated in his turn that his country appreciated the friendly relations with Belarus and a consolidated standpoint of the two states on the international agenda issues. He also voiced an interest in further development of political and economic contacts, as well as the development of cooperation in scientific and technical sphere. Mr Ramesh Chander assured the Belarusian side that he would contribute to the creation of a group on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in the Parliament of India.
At the end of the meeting Mr Boris Batura proposed to intensify the contacts between the legislative bodies of the Belarus and India. This was accepted by the Indian side in a positive manner. |
