Meetings with the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Hungary On 4 February 2010 during the first visit of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Hungary to the Republic of Belarus Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and Mr Anatoly Rubinov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Deputy Head of the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary, had meetings with Mr Gábor Hárs, head of the Hungarian national delegation to the Inter-Parliametary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and Mr Gyula Szabó, Head of the “Hungary-Belarus” parliamentary friendship group. Other participants of the meetings were: Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, Mr Vasily Guryanov, Mr Nikolai Zhgun, Mr Ignaty Misuragin, Mr Vladmir Mikhasev, Mr Viktor Tolkachev, deputies of the House of Representatives — members of the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary, and Mr Ferenc Kontra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary to the Republic of Belarus.
The Chairman of the Council of the Republic expressed satisfaction in connection with the positive dynamics of Belarusian-Hungarian relations development. The opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in Minsk gave a significant impetus to this process. Mr Boris Batura specially mentioned the intensification of the bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue (in particular within the framework of parliamentary groups), as well as the interest of the Belarusian side in conducting a constructive dialogue with Hungary in all spheres of activity. He also underlined the necessity of further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and improvement of the legal framework of the two countries’ relations.

The Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic focused on the present-day foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Belarus. He welcomed the intensification of the Belarusian-Hungarian interstate political dialogue. Mr Anatoly Rubinov noted that effective cooperation of the parliaments of both countries would facilitate the development of the relations in the spheres of trade, economy, education, science and culture.
The Hungarian parliamentarians are also satisfied with the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue. They underlined the necessity of establishing bilateral relations at regional level as well as arranging stable transport links between the two states.
A lot of attention during the meetings was given to the questions of participation of the two countries in the activities of international parliamentary organizations (in particular OSCE PA and the PACE). The Hungarian parliamentarians declared their support to the position of the Republic of Belarus to participate in the parliamentary dimension of the Eastern Partnership Initiative — EURONEST on equal terms. In addition to that representatives of the legislative bodies of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Hungary considered specific directions of the parliamentary friendship groups’ cooperation.
The programme of the visit of the Hungarian parliamentarians, which will last until 6 February, contains meetings with the headship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minsk Province Council of Deputies, as well as the visit to the Unitary Enterprise “Belkommunmash”. |
