Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with the Ambassador of the French Republic On 18 February 2010 Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Michele Raineri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Belarus, on his request.
The sides discussed the questions of the development inter-parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and France, their trade and economic links as well as bilateral contacts in humanitarian sphere.
The Chairman of the Council of the Republic welcomed the intensification of inter-parliamentary contacts, which was evidenced by the last year’s visit of the delegation of French parliamentarians to Minsk and the expected return visit of the delegation of the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the French Republic. He expressed gratitude to the French side for support in establishing constructive dialogue between Belarus and the European Union within the framework of the French presidency. He also noted the active Belarusian-French trade-economic and investment cooperation and underlined that France could be one of the leading partners of our country among the EU member states in this sphere. Mr Boris Batura drew the Ambassador’s attention to the fact that many members of the Council of the Republic headed large Belarusian enterprises and economic organizations and could assist the development of bilateral economic links.

A lot of attention during the meeting was given to the interaction within the framework of European parliamentary structures, in particular to the question of establishing the parliamentary dimension of the Eastern Partnership Initiative — EURONEST. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic underlined the necessity of equitable and full-scale participation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in the activities of this structure.
The Ambassador of France in his turn noted the necessity of developing the cooperation between the parliaments of Belarus and France as well as the fact that the next visit would give a significant impetus to this process. He expressed readiness to render assistance in developing bilateral economic cooperation and humanitarian links.
