Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with Mr Andrei Molchanov, Chairperson of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States Issues

      On 22 March 2010 Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting  with Mr Andrei Molchanov, Chairperson of the Committee of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on the Commonwealth of Independent States Issues, on the request of the Russian side. Other participants of the meeting were Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, Mr Vadim Popov, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Economy, Budget and Finances, and Mr Dmitry Shilo, Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus at the Inter-Parliamentary Assemblies of the Commonwealth of the Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Community; the participants from the Russian side were Mr Mikhail Krotov, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of the Independent States Council, and Mr Yevgeny Chaikovsky, Head of the Committee of the Council of the Federation on the Commonwealth of Independent States Issues Office.

      The sides discussed topical questions of bilateral interaction including the activities within the framework of inter-parliamentary organizations and noted the necessity to extend and develop spheres of cooperation. According to their opinion representatives of the upper chambers of the Belarusian and Russian parliaments have real opportunities today to promote trade and economic relations between the regions of our countries.
