Mr Boris Batura had a meeting with the Minister of Education of the Sultanate of Oman

     On 4 May 2010 Mr Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi, Minister of Education of the Sultanate of Oman. The Belarusian side was also presented by Mr Aleksandr Radkov, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and Ms Nina Mazay, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic for Foreign Affairs and National Security, the Omani side — by Mr Mohammed al Hassan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation.

     The central issue of the meeting was promotion of bilateral links in the sphere of education. Mr Boris Batura noted that the visit of the Minster of Education of the Sultanate of Oman to Belarus would facilitate further development of cooperation between the two states. He underlined the significant potential of contacts in the sphere of education. The Chairman of the Council of the Republic welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding between the ministries of education of Belarus and Oman, which had been signed the day before in Minsk.

     The Chairman of the Council of the Republic expressed gratitude for warm reception of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus during its visit to Oman at the end of February — beginning of March 2010 at the invitation of Mr Yahya Mahfoodh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman. He underlined that the Belarusian side was actively working upon bringing the agreements reached during the visit to effect. In addition to that Mr Boris Batura expressed gratitude to Oman for the support in the international arena, in particular in the UN.

     Mr Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi in his turn informed the Belarusian side that he had got acquainted with the educational system of the Republic of Belarus during the visit to our country and highly appraised it. He also noted that he had had a possibility to discuss the directions of further development of contacts in the area of educational and study programmes.

     Mr Mohammed al Hassan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to the Russian Federation, expressed readiness to personally assist the development of Belarusian-Omani investment, trade and economic links as well as interaction in humanitarian sphere.
