A meeting with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic

      On 26 July 2010 Mr Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and Mr Anatoly Rubinov, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr Bashar al-Assad, President of the Syrian Arab Republic. Other participants of the meeting were Mr Leonid Krupets, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Mr Anatoly Glaz, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives for Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media, and Mr Oleg Yermolovich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Syrian Arab Republic.

      The participants of the meeting discussed the development of Belarusian-Syrian political dialogue (in particular the bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation), as well as the intensification of trade and economic cooperation, including that on the regional level. In addition to that the sides noted the significant potential of the relations of the two countries in the sphere of science, culture and education.

      A number of other questions of mutual interest were also discussed.
